  143. The only country with automatic reciprocity is Canada.  You'd need a
  144. reciprocol license from Bermuda, which takes about 60-90 days to get,
  145. and you also have to have at least a General Class US license.  So,
  146. no, don't bother bringing your HT.

  236. Hi Rob, I'm sorry but you are mistaken. TechnoLogic Concepts has a kit
  237. that allows an ICOM-22S to tune 144.62 to 148 MHz in 5KHz steps without
  238. changing the crystal. It is an extremely simple mod that allows the
  239. extra frequency coverage: Remove D6, D7, and R38 from the PLL board
  240. and solder a jumper from pin 13 to pin 16 on IC-1. This will allow
  241. simplex only operation from 144.62 to 148 MHz with standard 15KHz spacing.

  278. I spoke to N0HJZ in Minneapolis, MN and he told me that he logged his first
  279. contact at 2352.  W4ZD was 20 dB over S9 when I worked him (I worked him on
  280. my Icom 251 which has a terrible front end, even with a preamp), so things
  281. were really hopping.  The band started to fold shortly after I worked W4ZD,
  282. but was still fading in and out until after 0200.  
  283.  
  284. It's hard to say what else I could've worked had I been around when the band
  285. opened up instead of an hour later.  I kinda suspected something was up when
  286. I walked into the living room and noticed a pretty good herringbone pattern
  287. on the tv station my wife was watching.  I've noticed this alot on the low
  288. VHF channels when 6m opens up, but she was watching channel 8 at the time.

  495. It seems there are at least two popular antennas in amateur radio
  496. whose main claim to fame is that they've made a lot of money for
  497. their manufacturers. Those are the through_the_glass type and the 
  498. small magnetic loop type. As your wife demonstrated, a near dummy 
  499. load will work as an antenna after a fashion. It's only when you 
  500. can do side by side comparisons against classic groundplane and
  501. dipole elements that you discover how poorly some of these antennas 
  502. actually perform. (The same could be said for some of the popular
  503. mobile HF antennas being hawked to amateurs.)
