The only country with automatic reciprocity is Canada. You'd need a
reciprocol license from Bermuda, which takes about 60-90 days to get,
and you also have to have at least a General Class US license. So,
no, don't bother bringing your HT.

Does anybody have any information about this company?

Any information would be helpful.

Hi Rob, I'm sorry but you are mistaken. TechnoLogic Concepts has a kit
that allows an ICOM-22S to tune 144.62 to 148 MHz in 5KHz steps without
changing the crystal. It is an extremely simple mod that allows the
extra frequency coverage: Remove D6, D7, and R38 from the PLL board
and solder a jumper from pin 13 to pin 16 on IC-1. This will allow
simplex only operation from 144.62 to 148 MHz with standard 15KHz spacing.
The TechnoLogic Concepts kit then allows repeater offset operation and
5 KHz spacing. Their address is:

At the same time, those of us here in the upper midwest were working into
Florida and southern Georgia. From western Wisconsin (grid EN44) I worked
the following stations:
0058 W4EMB EL95
0105 K2RTH EL95
0111 WB4YJG EL96
0115 WD4IXD EL98
0119 KE4BXT EM90
0126 N9SPO EM90
0129 WD4AFY EM92
0143 W4ZD EL97
I spoke to N0HJZ in Minneapolis, MN and he told me that he logged his first
contact at 2352. W4ZD was 20 dB over S9 when I worked him (I worked him on
my Icom 251 which has a terrible front end, even with a preamp), so things
were really hopping. The band started to fold shortly after I worked W4ZD,
but was still fading in and out until after 0200.
It's hard to say what else I could've worked had I been around when the band
opened up instead of an hour later. I kinda suspected something was up when
I walked into the living room and noticed a pretty good herringbone pattern
on the tv station my wife was watching. I've noticed this alot on the low
VHF channels when 6m opens up, but she was watching channel 8 at the time.

For what it's worth, here is the chronology of my wife's license:
Passed exam: March 12, 1994
VEC gave paperwork to FCC: March 28
FCC issued license: June 14
FCC postmarked license: June 17
License received: June 21
To save you looking at your calendars, the FCC had it in their hands
for twelve weeks from receipt to postmark. Time from examination to
license receipt: fourteen weeks and three days.
Your milage may--and probably will--vary.

It seems there are at least two popular antennas in amateur radio
whose main claim to fame is that they've made a lot of money for
their manufacturers. Those are the through_the_glass type and the
small magnetic loop type. As your wife demonstrated, a near dummy
load will work as an antenna after a fashion. It's only when you
can do side by side comparisons against classic groundplane and
dipole elements that you discover how poorly some of these antennas
actually perform. (The same could be said for some of the popular
mobile HF antennas being hawked to amateurs.)
